Community Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Chatham Hall
On October 5, Chatham Hall celebrated Hispanic Heritage month with a service held in St. Mary’s Chapel.
The service, organized by the World Languages Department, featured songs, readings, and prayers offered in Spanish, as well as student speakers from Spain and Hispanic countries. The chapel program also featured two Spanish hymns, “Pescador de Hombres” and “Alabaré,” with student accompaniment on guitar.

This year’s service focused on traditional Spanish foods, with students of Hispanic descent telling the gathered community about their favorite dishes, from tamales to pepián. The dishes represent much more than sustenance for these students; they represent memories and feelings from specific times in their lives, such as family gatherings and memories of loved ones.
