Meet the Acting Head of School
Dr. Chris Proctor is currently serving Chatham Hall as the Acting Head of School.
Dr. Proctor has been involved in education for more than 30 years, most recently as Head of North Cross School in Roanoke, Va. for 11 years. In this role he was responsible for 580 students spanning Grades PK-12 and for opening North Cross-Shanghai, a satellite campus of 340 students in Grades 9-12 in China.
Dr. Proctor previously served as Head of Porter-Gaud School in South Carolina and St. Martin’s Episcopal School and Grace Episcopal School in Louisiana.

Dr. Proctor led Chatham Hall’s accreditation committee in 2019 and has served on the Board of the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). He earned his bachelor’s and master's degrees in geology from Colgate University and Duke University, respectively. A Chapel Hill native, he received a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
