Riders Learn with Decorated Clinician Diane Carney

On March 3, Chatham Hall hosted a riding clinic with decorated horsewoman Diane Carney.
Carney has more than 35 years experience in the industry, including serving as a course designer, horse show commentator, and show judge at top events all over the country such as the ASPCA Maclay Finals, Del Mar National, USHJA Hunter Derbies, and HITS Hunter Prix.

Throughout the clinic, Carney encouraged the 15 participating riders to harness their focus and work together as a team. Whether the riders were jumping 2’6” or riding strictly on the flat, Carney advised them to concentrate on the details, including developing their equitation in order to get noticed favorably by judges in the show ring. The students were encouraged to ask questions, allowing them to gain insight into various topics including the mechanics of picking up leads more efficiently or developing a stronger, more refined seat so their sitting trot was blue ribbon worthy. Riders also explored strategizing, contemplating situations such as adjustments that can be made based on the horse draw in an IEA show and getting noticed in a large flat class.

The riders greatly benefited from Carney’s wisdom and candor during this in-depth and enlightening learning experience.
