The Word on the Dance Floor

Eleanor Butterfield '25
This Semi-Formal, I had the honor of interviewing some of the wonderful attendees. The variety of people featured here come from the schools of Hargrave Military Academy, Godwin High School, Blue Ridge School, and our very own Chatham Hall.
These people were chosen by my highly selective and semi-random “vibe radar.” Most (and by “most” I mean all) of these interviews were conducted by me yelling as loud as I could to be heard. They were also held away from the dancing, so if you were not interviewed, you have quite a lot of stamina! All of the names in this article are aliases that I requested from the ones being interviewed to keep their identities a secret—none of these names are real!

To get started, the theme “rave” wasn't really Banana Split’s scene, and they spent most of their time in their sharp suit on the sidelines, but if you let them, their signature dance, the “boogie woogie,”™ will knock your socks off. Bruno Neptune, on the other hand, was thriving in their little dance circle as they got down to almost every song.

Fun fact about our very own Diane Snogstin: they’ve worked at a funeral home! They also wish for inner peace and happiness. Diane wasn't really a dancer at this semi, but they said they could bust it down with a little hip wiggle.

Happy Bee, after some contemplation and pressure from their friends, says their dream is to be an astronaut. Richard Spit also has a dream of flying through the sky as a pilot.

Mafia Boss, who was wearing a beautiful black dress, wishes for a 1920s theme for next year's semi, while Arizona’s feeling more of a 1970s vibe. We also had a request for a medieval ball from Pala George, which has my full support.

The very mysterious “Unknown” was looking forward to listening to some daft-punk, and we had another music request of “Just Like Fire” by P!nk from Mafia Boss.

Both Happy Bee and Pala George say their favorite color is orange! A personal favorite of mine as well.

Vhickeore (pronounced as “Victor”) was disappointed by the lack of bloodshed and destruction, but still looked like they were enjoying themself as they brooded in the corner, plotting their next move… perhaps waiting for the right time to strike (a pose of course).

With that, our 2024 Semi-Formal R.A.V.E. comes to an end. A very tiring night, but so much fun, and many great memories were made. Without a doubt, it was Rad and Very Exciting! See you at Formal!
