Riders Host Third SWVHJA Home Show

On April 9, the Riding Program hosted its third South West Virginia Hunter Jumper Association (SWVHJA) show of the year. This competition saw Chatham Hall riders competing in various divisions throughout the day, as well as outside competitors from the surrounding area.
The show started with first-time competitor Virginia Grace Jones '22 and Chatham Hall's Material Girl earning both sixth and second place in the Hunter Pleasure Division. Maeve Raible '25 showed Chatham Hall's Flat White to a Reserve Champion placing in the Pleasure Division, as well as some good ribbons in the Beginner Equitation at her first Over Fences horse show. Julia Schultz '24 showed Chatham Hall's Gilly to a Reserve Champion placing in the Beginner Equitation after winning the Flat class. 
 
In the Pleasure Division, at 2' Maddie McCoy '24 and the University of Lynchburg's Pixie Stix took home top honors and the Champion ribbon, with a win in one Over Fences class and in the Under Saddle at their first horse show together. Regina Salinas Olivares, competing with Chatham Hall's Marvelous Martha, took home Reserve Champion after winning the first Over Fences class. McCoy also grabbed first in the competitive Chatham Hall Mini Medal with Salinas Olivares coming in fourth.

In the Hopeful Hunter Division at 2'3", Carolyn Whatley '23 and Chatham Hall's Face Value won in the Under Saddle and two seconds Over Fences earning her the championship ribbon. Elle Reeves '25 also had some strong rides aboard Chatham Hall's Americana including a second in the Under Saddle. Rounding out the division for Chatham, Zoey Horn '22 rode Chatham Hall's Nashi to some strong ribbons in the Hopefuls and a third in the Mini Medal with consistency and determination.

These six Chatham riders represented well in the 15-17 Equitation on the Flat, with a second for McCoy, third for Vance Luster '23, fourth for Whatley, fifth for Horn, and a sixth place for Salinas Olivares. Reeves was also the winner in the Under 14 Equitation class.

To end the day Luster showed her own According II You in the Special Children's Division, coming away Champion. She also took top honors in the Hollins University Medal out of a competitive field.
