FaFo to Highlight Chatham Hall Artists

FaFo, an online gallery, will soon launch and exhibit the original artwork and publications of Chatham Hall students. Short for “Fashion Information,” the FaFo site will provide a widely accessible platform that extends beyond the School to celebrate the diversity of Chatham Hall artists.
Face masks with the artwork of Gloria Guo ‘22 are currently being sold in the School Bookstore to raise awareness of the online gallery.

“We need masks right now,” noted Taylor Xu ‘23, founder and creator of FaFo. “People are more likely to buy them because of COVID, so as everyone is wearing artwork on their faces it’s the perfect way to showcase our own artists.”

For Xu, an online platform is a necessity for the broad exhibition of Chatham Hall’s artists.

“Even on campus, not everyone actually goes over to the Art Building. We have some great artists here but their work is being overlooked. We really need to provide them with an opportunity to be seen.”

Working with Arts Department chair Kristen Morrison and Ms. Barksdale, director of the Chatham Hall entrepreneurism program,  Xu plans to highlight the FaFo site on the Chatham Hall website and create an online home for student artists. Xu works with acrylic and oil painting, installations, and costume design as well as has studied with the Global Entrepreneurism class.

“Global Entrepreneurism helps make ideas become realities,” she said. “We learned how to propose an idea, develop the idea into a full business plan and then convince people to invest in the idea. You can make something that’s just a thought in your mind become something real, and as a business it can carry out a personal mission of something important to you. It’s very meaningful.”

FaFo is Xu’s capstone project for Global Entrepreneurship II, and its launch fulfills the last requirement of the program. She will be awarded the Global Entrepreneurship certificate this spring.
