5 Riders Compete in Spring Welcome "A" Show Over Break

On March 4, five Chatham Hall riders headed to the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Va. to compete in the Spring Welcome "A" Show.
Though horse showing looks a little different following the School and U.S. Equestrian Federation rules, all of the riders enjoyed themselves while learning over three days of showing.

Highlights from the weekend included Carolyn Whatley '23 and Chatham Hall's Tres Beau earning Reserve Champion honors in the PreChild/Adult hunters at 2' with two wins over fences. Eve Dunnagan '23 and her lease horse Princeton earned some ribbons in the same division, including second place in over fences and some of their strongest trips for this partnership! Later, Caroline David '23 and Chatham Hall's Be Dazzled came in fifth in the PreChild Hunter Classic at 2'6" in their first horse show together. Annabele Whitehead '22 and her own horse Imperio took home a second in the second round of the 3'3" Junior Hunters and a first-place win in the handy round on the final final day.

On the second night, Whitehead, David, and Vance Luster '23 competed in the Collegiate Cup Class, a team-based equitation competition that included a flat phase and an over fences phase at various heights. Luster took home the top honors in her section of the flat on Chatham Hall's Ramiro, while Whitehead bested the competition on the flat and over fences. Overall, the team took third place honors with strong performances throughout.

The weekend served as an opportunity for the riders to put what they've been practicing to the test in the show ring, as well as to learn new things to improve upon after Spring Break.

Way to go, Turtles!
