Alumnae Share College Advice and Expertise

Chatham Hall
On Thursday, three recent graduates returned to campus for an evening of questions and discussion with the Class of 2018.
Jingi Hairston ’15, Michaela Campbell ’14, and Dasia Moore ’14 had dinner with this year’s graduating class and then offered advice and insight from their college experiences. This event, known as the College Transition Workshop, has become a chance for graduating seniors to ask any questions they may have about life after Chatham Hall. The College Counseling and Advancement offices host the workshop, which is designed to offer recent graduates one of their first chances to give back to Chatham Hall by providing a valuable service to current students. The panel of speakers represented colleges throughout Virginia and the east coast, including Yale University, the University of Virginia, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Seniors and the visiting alumnae shared dinner in Van Voorhis Lecture Hall before the panel discussion. Director of College Counseling, Dr. Erin McHugh remarked on the event, saying, "It was so great to have our alums come back and talk to the seniors - their advice was so honest and relevant.  One of my favorite pieces of advice was when Dasia recommended trying to find a college where the people are nice and helpful - it is important that students consider the type of community they will spending the next four years, especially when leaving such a supportive environment as Chatham Hall."At the end of the hour and a half workshop, some students stayed behind to ask further questions and connect with the young alums. In all, the event provided all of the participants with some vital tools and helpful information that will help seniors make their college decisions in the coming weeks.
