Students Travel to Johns Hopkins for Model UN Conference

Chatham Hall
On February 7, members of the Chatham Hall Model UN Club traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to attend Session XXII of the Johns Hopkins University Model United Nations Conference.
Club sponsor, MacKenzie Kuiper, traveled with twelve students to the conference, six of whom were attending a Model UN Conference for the first time. The Chatham Hall delegation had a weekend full of debate and problem solving, with some members representing the country of Sudan while others served on general councils and committees. Students had the opportunity to engage on a variety of topics ranging from decolonization to the prohibition of chemical weapons.

Of the twelve students in attendance, four served in general assemblies while five of their classmates worked in larger committees representing Sudan, with about 80-100 people in each committee. The specialized committees included exploration on the peaceful use of outer space, Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Issues, and Peacekeeping Operations. Additionally, three students worked on crisis committees where they were woken up at midnight and had to attend a crisis committee meeting from 1:00 am to 4:30 am. The weekend left attendees with a sense of pride and accomplishment, and the club is excited to host the upcoming Chatham Hall Model UN Conference on March 3rd.
