Howard '10 Coaches at Special Olympics World Games in Berlin

“The moment that stands out the most was walking into the Opening Ceremony where more than 100,000 people were there to support our athletes,” she said. “The amount of pride they had in representing Bermuda and to see them making connections with other athletes from around the world is something I will never forget.”

Over the past year, Howard has helped coach Team Bermuda in both swimming and equestrian events. During the World Games, Team Bermuda took home an impressive 11 medals, including two golds, one silver, and eight bronze, as well as numerous other placings.

“Being a part of Team Bermuda in a coaching capacity was a once in a lifetime opportunity,” noted Howard. “The athletes are inspiring, and I have learned so much from them in such a short time. I think a lot of people look at the opportunity as a way to give back to others when in reality I’m the lucky one.”

Howard currently serves as administrator of the K. Margaret Carter Center, a day program facility that helps adults with disabilities, mental health conditions, and traumatic brain injuries increase their independence and learn functional and life skills. Earlier this year, Howard was recognized by the Alumnae Council as the 2023 Leader on the Rise. She was also recently named Big Sister of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda in 2022.
