One Bowl at a Time: Ceramics, Community, and the Fight Against Hunger
Fifteen students. Teams of three. Ten days. One hundred bowls.
During January Term, our Ceramics class took on an ambitious and meaningful challenge: creating 100 handmade pottery bowls for God’s Storehouse’s annual Empty Bowls event in Danville. With clay-covered hands and a shared purpose, students worked collaboratively to shape, glaze, and fire each bowl, knowing every piece would help support neighbors facing food insecurity.
Empty Bowls is more than an event; it’s a reminder that small acts, repeated with care, can make a real difference. We are honored to partner with God’s Storehouse for the third year in a row, contributing student-made bowls to an initiative that helps end hunger one bowl at a time.
At the Empty Bowls fundraiser, guests receive a handmade bowl and enjoy a donated soup from local restaurants, bid on silent auction items, and save room for something sweet at the annual bake sale, all while supporting an essential community resource.
We are proud of our students for pairing creativity with compassion and grateful to God’s Storehouse for the work they do every day. Well done, Chatham Hall!
