Behind the Scenes: A Look at Our Facilities Team’s Impact

Take a behind-the-scenes look at the dedicated teams who keep Chatham Hall’s 365-acre campus shining every single day.

At Chatham Hall, our campus shines, literally and figuratively, thanks to the dedication of our Facilities Team from The Budd Group. In addition, we have Maureen Webb as our on-staff gardener who makes our flower beds beautiful with purple and gold blooms during every season. While students, faculty, and visitors experience the beauty and comfort of our grounds and buildings every day, much of the work that makes this possible happens behind the scenes. Here’s a closer look at the enormous effort that goes into keeping our campus running smoothly.

Janitorial Team: 300,000 Square Feet of Care Each Week

Our janitorial crew works tirelessly to maintain clean, healthy, and welcoming spaces across campus.

They clean over 300,000 square feet every week.
On average, they complete 240 assigned tasks each week across all areas.
To ensure quality and consistency, the team conducts approximately 42 weekly inspections to make sure we are meeting the school’s standards.

Their attention to detail and commitment to excellence keep our classrooms, dorms, offices, and common spaces ready for learning, living, and gathering.

Grounds Team: Stewarding 365 Acres of Green Space

Our two-person Grounds team with The Budd Group, in addition to our on-staff gardener, Maureen Webb, manages an impressive amount of land and landscaping.

They mow 52 acres each week.
They trim and edge around 14 school buildings and 25 campus houses.
Their work includes seasonal pruning, routine watering of flowers and trees, and support with tree plantings, mulching, and leaf collection.
They maintain our on-campus Arboretum, including watering, pruning, and caring for campus trees. In fact, with the assistance of the Budd Group landscape division, we just planted 27 new trees on campus in November!

Their care is what allows our campus to stay beautiful year-round, from the first blooms of spring to the last leaves of fall.

Maintenance Team: The Problem-Solvers of Campus

From plumbing and electrical work to carpentry and HVAC maintenance, the Maintenance team keeps our facilities safe, functional, and comfortable.

They perform daily, weekly, and monthly corrective and routine work across all campus buildings and homes.
Recent projects include repairs to the front columns on Pruden and several posts along the arcade between Dabney and Holt.
They manage HVAC preventive maintenance monthly, quarterly, or semi-annually based on manufacturer specifications.
They ensure the fleet of vans and buses stays inspected, serviced, and ready for use.
Between Maintenance and Grounds, the teams completed 163 work orders in the last 30 days.
They also collaborate on snow removal and other seasonal tasks.

Their work ensures that the campus stays functional, safe, and ready for everything from classes to community events.

One Team, One Mission

Though each group has its own specialties, the Janitorial, Grounds, and Maintenance teams work together seamlessly, especially when it comes to supporting campus events like mixers, open houses, dances, and more. Their teamwork ensures that every event is set up for success and every part of our campus experience runs smoothly.
