Hanami at Chatham Hall

A Moment of Beauty, Culture, and Connection

During Admitted Students Day, something beautifully characteristic of our students unfolded. They welcomed our guests and our entire community into an experience rooted in who they are.

Beneath the blooming cherry blossoms, Saki O. ’26, Mone S. ’27, and Chise S. ’28 shared the Japanese tradition of Hanami. With mochi in hand and intention in every detail, they created more than a gathering. They created a moment to pause.

Hanami, the Japanese tradition of viewing cherry blossoms, is grounded in reflection, gratitude, and the fleeting beauty of the present. It is also a perfect reflection of Chatham Hall: a place where students lead with purpose, share their stories, and invite others into meaningful connection.

Just outside of Dutch, blossoms framed a scene that felt both simple and profound. There was laughter. Conversation. Games. A quiet awareness that we were part of something shared.

For our admitted students, it was more than an event. It was a glimpse of what it means to live and learn here. A community that shows up. A place where voices are valued, cultures are celebrated, and students shape the experience in ways that matter. These are the moments that last.

A heartfelt thank you to Saki, Mone, and Chise for offering this gift to our community and reminding us of the beauty in slowing down and coming together.
At Chatham Hall, learning happens everywhere.

Sometimes, it happens under cherry blossoms.
