The Cost of Opportunity: Why Investing in a Boarding School Education Pays Off

Kimber Keating P’20, ’22, ’24, Director of Enrollment & Engagement

Why all-girls? Why boarding? Why Chatham Hall? It's a worthy investment!

There’s a moment every family faces - usually sometime between comparing math curricula, managing carpool schedules, and wondering why the laundry never stops - when we ask ourselves: Am I giving my child everything they need to thrive?

It’s a big question. A brave one. And sometimes, it brings us to consider opportunities that require both courage and investment. Boarding school can be one of those opportunities.

At Chatham Hall, we talk often about the “cost of opportunity” - not in dollars alone, but in the boldness it takes to choose a path defined by purpose, community, and limitless possibility. As both a parent of three Chatham Hall alumnae and the Director of Enrollment & Engagement, I’ve had the privilege of seeing this opportunity from every angle. And I can say this with complete certainty: It pays off.

Where Young Women Are Known, Supported, and Challenged
Chatham Hall is not simply a school. It is a living, learning community designed, intentionally and beautifully, for girls to become the most authentic versions of themselves.
I watched it happen in my own daughters. They walked onto campus as bright, eager young women, but over time something deeper emerged: a sense of clarity, boldness, and agency that I had never seen in quite the same way. They learned to trust their own voices. They learned how to lead and how to collaborate. They discovered what made them come alive, and then they ran toward it.

The alumnae I’ve met echo this same sentiment. Their experience at Chatham Hall wasn’t just meaningful; it was transformative. Many tell me they feel more connected to Chatham Hall than to any other school they attended before or after. It is the place where they first understood who they were capable of becoming.

The Chatham Hall Difference
There are countless independent schools doing good work, but Chatham Hall is rare. Our mission and our daily work center around empowering young women in ways that are both deeply personal and academically rigorous. We offer:
  • A community intentionally designed for girls—supportive, challenging, joyful.
  • Faculty who truly see and know their students, and who cultivate a culture of belonging.
  • Signature programs—Entrepreneurship, Robotics, Riding, and unique global learning opportunities that open doors to what’s possible.
  • A living-learning environment that develops independence, resilience, and confidence.
  • A tradition of honor and integrity that shapes character long after graduation.

This is an education that meets the moment and prepares girls for the world they will lead.

An Investment That Compounds Over a Lifetime
Boarding school is an investment, yes, but so is every meaningful opportunity we give our children. The difference here is the return.

Our alumnae tell us that the boldness they found at Chatham Hall carried them through college, into internships and careers, into boardrooms, laboratories, studios, and start-ups. They talk about professors seeking them out for their thoughtful questions, employers noticing their initiative, and mentors admiring their poise.

They were ready. They attribute that readiness to the foundation built here.

Why It Pays Off
Because when you invest in a Chatham Hall education, you’re not just choosing a school. You’re choosing:
  • Space for your daughter to discover who she is.
  • Skills that will serve her for a lifetime.
  • A sisterhood and network that will support, uplift, and challenge her.
  • An environment where her voice matters—not someday, but now.

The cost of opportunity is real. So is the payoff.

For so many families, mine included, it has been one of the most meaningful decisions we’ve ever made.

If you’d like to talk more about what a Chatham Hall education could mean for your daughter, I’d love to connect. Every journey begins with a conversation. Often, that’s where the transformation begins.
