Spring 2024 Sports Recap

It was a busy spring for our student-athletes, from hosting numerous major events to competing in conference and state tournaments.
The Varsity Golf team represented the region and state by hosting two tournaments this spring. On April 22, 66 female golfers from 21 schools around the state joined the Turtles at the Tuscarora Country Club for the 18-hole Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Girls Invitational State Tournament, the first of that length at the state level for girls. During the tournament, Ellery Blurton ‘24 placed in the top 10 and all golfers scored their personal best for 18 holes. On May 1, the team also hosted the Blue Ridge Athletic Conference (BRAC) Girls’ Golf Championship. Blurton and Stephanie Cano Barranco ‘24 both earned placement on the All-BRAC Team and Head Coach Zach Smith was named BRAC Golf Coach of the Year for the second consecutive time.

On Nellie’s Field, the Varsity Lacrosse team also experienced a season of growth, welcoming many new players to the sport. At the end of the season, Anne Rachel Sheppard ‘27 and Hana Vogtman ‘27 were named 2nd-Team All-BRAC and Head Coach Mary Semler was honored as BRAC Lacrosse Coach of the Year.

The Varsity Soccer team had a successful season, honing the skills of experienced players to capture numerous wins. Sophia Bossard ‘25 was named 2nd-Team All-BRAC for the second consecutive year and was also recognized as 2nd-Team All-VISAA.

The Varsity Track & Field team competed in its third season at Chatham Hall with students improving their skills. Nine Turtles qualified to compete in the VISAA State Tournament, including Auri Henderson-Jones ‘25 in the 100 and 200 meter; Zuri Assam ‘25 in the 100 meter; Daise Harris ‘26, Henderson-Jones, Aliah Rodriquez ‘25, and Stephanie Velez ‘27 in the 4x100 Relay; Priscella Bennsion ‘25, Rodriquez, Mary Blair Tankard ‘25, and Assam in the 4x100 Relay; and Keri Campbell ‘24 and Kaitlyn Keating ‘25 in shot put.
