Dancers Deliver Delightfully Frightening Fall Performance

True to the season, this year’s group of talented dancers put together an incredible (and scary!) fall performance.
The Black Box Theatre was transformed for the spooky affair, with sinister “bloody” handprints and messages like “save us” painted on the walls. To the theme of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, the troupe concocted a frightening show that showed off both their skills and the darkest parts of their imagination.

As described in the program, “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is an original production of dances based on the book of the same name. It also features many other horrible entities from your nightmares.” This statement rang true throughout the 12 carefully choreographed routines featuring knives, severed hands, and gravesites. The performance matched well with the eerie atmosphere across campus during Halloween weekend, and offered the dancers opportunities to showcase their mastery of multiple styles of dance.

The dances were choreographed by instructor Donna Franklin, as well as many of the students themselves. The show also couldn’t have gone on without a dedicated backstage crew. Click here to view the full program.

The dancers participated in creating the set and some of the choreography as well,” said Franklin. “All their efforts were rewarded in the energetic, scary, and fun performance that was perfect for Halloween. The audiences were blown away by each show!”
