Where Are They Now: Alexandra Casker '19 Rocks Sports Marketing
When Alexandra Casker ’19 embarked on her adventures beyond Chatham Hall, she made her way to Boston College for her undergraduate studies. While Political Science initially drew her attention, she soon discovered a new passion: Applied Psychology. Later, marketing also caught her eye, and she added it as a minor. “With no set plan for a summer internship after my sophomore year, I decided to return home to Virginia and found an internship at the Lynchburg Hillcats, the Low-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians,” she recalls. “It was that internship that made me pursue a profession in sports, specifically sports marketing.”
That summer experience ignited a passion for the energy, camaraderie, and connection of the sports world, a spark that would eventually lead her to the big leagues. Today, Alexandra is a Marketing Coordinator for the Atlanta Braves, based in Atlanta, Georgia.
A Day at the Ballpark
No two days look the same for Alexandra. “I handle email communications for various departments within the organization,” she explains. “From supporting our Season Ticket Holders to promoting Youth Baseball Clinics, I work with numerous departments day to day.”
One of her favorite responsibilities is running the Kids Club program, which she recently revamped to include a new tiered membership system. “It’s been incredibly rewarding getting to help grow our next generation of fans,” she says. She especially loves seeing kids light up when they get to line up with players during the national anthem, which is a truly special moment.
The Journey to the Big Leagues
After her first sports internship with the Hillcats, Alexandra spent two summers with the Cotuit Kettleers, a team in the Cape Cod Baseball League. “The Cape League is backyard baseball at its finest with the best college baseball players competing with each other all summer long,” she shares. “The experience I had, the people I met, and the connections I made were the best part of my time there.”
Following her graduation from Boston College, Alexandra began her professional journey as a Marketing Trainee for the Atlanta Braves — a highly competitive, year-long program. By the end of her traineeship, she earned a full-time promotion to her current role as Marketing Coordinator.
The Joy and Challenge of the Game
“The best part of what I do is getting to work in a field I am not only passionate about, but I get to see the results of my work first-hand when fans walk through the gates,” she shares. “Baseball is such a fun sport, and the ability to bring that to people who are so passionate about their team makes coming to work fun.” Her position and the team she works for enable her to utilize all her skills, creativity, and experience, while also challenging her to continue growing and trying new things. There’s also a lot of fun! “It's also really fun to get to be part of certain events like Spring Training, the All-Star Game, the Speedway Classic, and more. They are truly once-in-a-career experiences that I get to play a hand in and be a part of, which I don't take for granted.”
Still, she acknowledges the challenges. “The sports world isn’t easy to break into,” she says, “but every day is worth it when you’re part of something that brings people so much joy.”
Roots of Confidence
Alexandra notes that her time at Chatham Hall prepared her for this life. “Chatham Hall was such a safe place for me to explore what I was interested in, try new things, fail, succeed, and do it all over again.” She also felt empowered as a woman. “I truly found my voice as a person, but more specifically as a woman. The confidence I gained at Chatham Hall has stuck with me throughout the years.” She continues, “It has made me feel empowered to take up space, fight for what I believe in, and know that I am in control of how I move through the world. Without the lessons I learned at Chatham Hall, I would not be where I am today.”
