Dance at Chatham Hall is about far more than movement. It is a space where students are empowered to create, lead, and share their voices as choreographers, directors, poets, songwriters, and performers. This spring, the Chatham Hall Dance Program brought those talents to life in Hand in Hand, Heart in Heart, an evening that celebrated artistry, storytelling, and the bonds that connect our community.
Through student choreography, original poetry, and expressive performances, dancers explored themes of friendship, memory, identity, resilience, farewells, and hope. The concert highlighted not only the technical growth of our dancers but also the courage required to step beyond one’s comfort zone and share personal stories through movement.
Student choreography remains at the heart of the program. From The Way of Life, choreographed and performed by Liana J. ’28 as a tribute to her friend Lexi Warren ’26, to Chrisette Jones ’26’s Transfiguration, which explored growth and transformation, our students use dance as a powerful form of self-expression. Challenging and personal topics such as faith, challenge, relationships, and loss become the muse for our students’ work, and the results brought great impact to the audience.
Collaboration continues to play a dynamic role in the work of Chatham Hall dancers. Ensemble pieces showcased the strength of collective storytelling, while Velvet Feathers brought together original poetry by Ivy Branch ’26 and choreography by guest artist Dorthy Saykaly in an interdisciplinary exploration of identity, silence, and self-discovery. In Quiet Souls: The Red String Theory, Aniah Garcia-Charway ’26 reflected on the invisible threads that connect people across time and circumstance, reminding audiences of the enduring power of human connection.
Throughout the evening, students demonstrated not only artistic skill but also imagination, vulnerability, and leadership. More than a performance, Hand in Hand, Heart in Heart served as a celebration of a year of creativity and growth and a reminder of the power of the arts to foster confidence, empathy, and belonging.
As the season closed, the entire community was left with a lasting impression of the talent, courage, and community that define Chatham Hall Dance, and of the transformative power that comes from creating and sharing something deeply personal.
