Spreading Kindness on Campus: The Kindness Tree Project

Two students bring kindness to campus in a big way.

On Monday, November 10, Chatham Hall launched the Kindness Tree Project, led by Mone S. ’27 and Chisette J. ’26. Centered around World Kindness Day (November 13, 2025), this initiative invited the entire community to reflect on and celebrate acts of kindness.

A large tree was drawn on a banner, and students, faculty, and staff were encouraged to add messages of appreciation, hope, and encouragement in the shape of colorful leaves. In just a few days, the tree blossomed into a vibrant display of positivity, a visual reminder of the care, generosity, and gratitude that define our community.

The Kindness Tree Project became more than a creative activity; it was a celebration of connection, a way to recognize the everyday kindness that makes Chatham Hall special, and a call to carry these intentions forward in our daily interactions.

Chisette J. ’26 shared, “On a large banner, we first created the trunk and branches of a tree.  Then we invited everyone to add kind messages in the shape of leaves, using origami and colored paper.” Mone S. ’27, “In a matter of days, our tree was covered with beautiful foliage, reminding us to see and celebrate kind behavior everywhere.”

As the leaves of the Kindness Tree multiply, so does the spirit of generosity and gratitude across our campus. This small, beautiful project reminds us all that kindness is contagious—and that each act, no matter how small, makes a difference.
