Art Portfolio Students Explore the Fall High Point Market
On Sunday, October 26, the Chatham Hall Art Portfolio class had the exciting opportunity to visit the Fall High Point Market in North Carolina, one of the nation’s premier home furnishings trade shows. This exclusive event, not open to the public, gave students a firsthand look at the intersection of design, art, and entrepreneurship.
A special thank you goes to Comer S. Wear, VP of Marketing for Rock House designer brands and mother of Eleanor W. ’27, for arranging this incredible experience. The day included tours of several notable showrooms: Maitland-Smith, guided by Morgan Honeycutt, a recent VCU art graduate who shared insights on pursuing a career in the private sector; Highland House with Annabelle Coley; Kravet Fabrics; and Hickory Chair with Laura Holland.
Students also enjoyed a delightful lunch in the Century Furniture Building, followed by a tour with Jim Kiselica, High Point Creative Director, and Comer Wear. The group even had the opportunity to meet Margot Shaw, editor of Flower Magazine, just before her presentation.
Throughout the day, students asked thoughtful questions and gained valuable insight into the professional world of design. The visit offered a rare glimpse into an industry that welcomes creativity, innovation, and collaboration, inspiring students to see the possibilities for their own artistic and entrepreneurial journeys.
