Chatham Hall's Spring Dance Concert Celebrates Creativity, Identity, and Emotion
This past weekend, the Spring Dance Concert took center stage, dazzling audiences with a powerful lineup of original choreography, bold performances, and deeply personal expression. The showcase featured an array of student- and faculty-led pieces that explored themes of identity, resilience, emotion, and culture, demonstrating the technical strength and expressive depth of Chatham Hall’s dancers.

The show opened with high energy and flair in Music Makes You Lose Control, choreographed by Anaiah G.C. ’26 to the iconic sounds of Missy Elliott. Dancers Ivy B. ’26, Maria L.T. ’25, Liana J. ’28, Autumn J. ’27, Chrisette J. ’26, Elisabeth L. ’26, Saniah P. ’27, and Zauri’yana R. ’27 joined Anaiah on stage, lighting up the room with rhythm and attitude.

In a dramatic shift in tone, Carmen brought haunting elegance to the stage, with choreography by Nadia C. ’27 set to the music of Lana Del Rey. Nadia and Kathi S. ’27’s duet captivated the audience with its intensity and intimacy.

Saki O. ’26 delivered a breathtaking solo in 涙そうそう (Down Come My Tears), choreographed by Mitsuya and Kintaro Ichifuji. Her performance, rooted in traditional Japanese movement, paired with the gentle melancholy of Yoshiko Moriyama’s vocals, was a poignant highlight of the evening.

Elisabeth L. ’26’s Not My Responsibility, set to music by Billie Eilish, offered a haunting reflection on societal expectations and self-image. Through choreography and performance, Elizabeth embodied vulnerability and quiet strength in a powerful solo.

Zauri’yana R. ’27 brought pulse and precision to HEIS, choreographed to Rema’s Afrobeat soundscape. Alongside Anaiah C.G. ’26, Chrisette J. ’26, Tawana M. ’25, and Saniah P. ’27, the piece brought bold moves and vibrant stage presence to the forefront.

Autumn J. ’26’s Let’s Just Let It Go, also set to Billie Eilish, was a graceful solo performance that showcased emotional release and artistic maturity. Later, Autumn returned to duet with Ivy B. ’26 in There Must Be Something In The Water, a stirring exploration of connection and trust set to music by Lewis Capaldi.

The concert celebrated global influences in Jarana Yucateca, choreographed and performed by Maria L.T. ’25. This spirited dance honored her Mexican heritage with dynamic footwork and vibrant authenticity.

Anaiah G.C. ’26 returned with two more pieces: The Boy Who Cried Wolf, a high-intensity group number with themes of betrayal and redemption, and Dear Diary, a deeply personal solo set to Brandi Carlile’s introspective lyrics.

The evening closed with Coming Home, choreographed by dance faculty member Denise Dalton. This ensemble piece—featuring Raine B. ’27, Anaiah G.C. ’26, Maria L.T. ’25, Samantha G. ’25, Liana J. ’28, Chrisette J. ’26, Elisabeth L. ’26, Tawana M. ’25, Saniah P. ’27, and Zauri’yana R. ’27—offered a heartfelt finale centered on belonging, reflection, and shared journeys.

Directed by Denise Dalton, with lighting design by Dalton and John Parris, and technical and music leadership from Addy A. ’27 and Bea S. ’27, the production was as technically seamless as it was emotionally resonant.
At Chatham Hall, dance continues to be a space where students move with purpose, perform with heart, and share their voices—one step, leap, and turn at a time.
