Chatham Hall at Advancement Institute 2025

Rector Sara Stephenson and Director of Strategic Advancement Shannon Reynolds among presenters.
On May 7, 2025, independent school professionals from across the region gathered at Hampton Roads Academy in Newport News for Advancement Institute 2025—a dynamic, full-day, in-person event designed to elevate strategy, inspire collaboration, and spark innovation across school divisions. Rector Sara Stephenson and Director of Strategic Advancement Shannon Reynolds were among the presenters.

From the moment the doors opened, the energy was high. Attendees were welcomed into a space filled with purpose, ready to explore cutting-edge ideas, hear from insightful speakers, connect with curated sponsors, and engage in meaningful peer dialogue.

The presentation from Chatham Hall dove in strong as they spoke about long-term parental engagement of families. How to get from “We’re all in” to true and authentic engagement and sustained enthusiasm. They shared strategies for deepening family participation and fostering commitment, with a particular focus on new families. They explored the key connections between enrollment, ongoing involvement, and long-term philanthropy. Through real examples and a practical rubric, participants learned to evaluate and enhance information flow, event planning, and cross-departmental communication. Their ultimate goal: to cultivate a strong sense of belonging and sustained engagement for every family.

True to its mission, the Advancement Institute was more than a professional development event; it was a chance to connect, reflect, and grow together. Peer collaboration was intentionally built into the day, giving participants time to exchange ideas, ask questions, and build relationships across roles and schools.
