A Community Built on Trust

Honor Council Election 2026

On Tuesday, April 14, the Chatham Hall community gathered in St. Mary’s Chapel for one of the most meaningful traditions of the year: the election of new Honor Council members. Thoughtfully led by student leaders and faculty, the service invited reflection on the shared values that define life at Chatham Hall: integrity, trust, and responsibility to one another.

The chapel began with a warm welcome and a moment of gratitude for both the outgoing Council and the many students who stepped forward to serve. From the outset, the message was clear: leadership at Chatham Hall is not about position or title, but about a deep commitment to community. Through our community norms, students are called not only to personal accountability, but to collective care - building an environment where trust is both given and earned each day.

Nineteen members of the Class of 2027 stepped forward as candidates for the Honor Council this year, each demonstrating remarkable courage, thoughtfulness, and a genuine desire to serve. Through written reflections, they shared not only why they hoped to take on this responsibility, but also who they are as individuals. Their words were both compelling and deeply affirming, reflecting a group of students who lead with authenticity, speak with honesty, and embody the values at the heart of the Chatham Hall community.

Gathering words reminded students that every member of the community is a leader, guided by the principles of the Honor Code and the Purple and Golden Rule. Leadership, as expressed throughout the service, is rooted in authenticity, courage, and the understanding that individual actions shape the broader community.

Reflections from current Honor Council members and sponsors brought this idea to life. Students spoke about trust as something built through small, consistent choices, respecting one another, taking responsibility, and showing up with integrity in daily life. Faculty reflected on the Council’s role not only in upholding standards, but in listening deeply, considering multiple perspectives, and supporting the well-being of the entire community.

In a particularly powerful reflection, the importance of shared responsibility emerged as a central theme. The Honor Council serves as a steward of community values, but the strength of the Honor Code ultimately rests in the hands of every student. Each decision, each interaction, and each moment of accountability contributes to the culture of trust that defines Chatham Hall.

Before casting their votes, students participated in a guided meditation, creating space for stillness and intentionality. In that quiet moment, they were reminded that they are part of something larger than themselves, a community grounded in mutual respect, compassion, and belonging. This pause set the tone for a thoughtful and reflective election process.

As ballots were cast, students were encouraged to consider not only who would lead effectively but also who would listen, collaborate, and represent the community's diverse voices with integrity. The act of standing after voting symbolized a collective commitment, standing behind one’s choices and in support of the community as a whole.

The service concluded with the singing of the Alma Mater and a community prayer, celebrating the courage of all who chose to serve and affirming the shared mission of Chatham Hall: to equip curious thinkers to lead lives of impact.

Later in the day, votes were tallied, and the Chatham Hall community gathered in excitement and anticipation for the results. On the front steps of Pruden Hall, the Honor Council members for the 2026-2027 school year were announced:
  • Raine Bastian
  • Clara Falls
  • Allie Midkiff
  • Mads Parris
  • Zauri’yana Rogers
  • Mone Saito
  • Princess Samanzi
  • Sophia Sydnor
  • Rachael Tang

  • Becky Yang
We celebrate these students and the responsibility they have been entrusted to carry. At the same time, we extend our deep appreciation to every student who chose to run. Stepping forward to serve requires courage, integrity, and a genuine commitment to the community. While not all will hold a formal position next year, each candidate has already demonstrated leadership that strengthens Chatham Hall.

This week’s election was more than a selection of new leaders; it was a reaffirmation of the values that bind the community together. At Chatham Hall, honor is not simply upheld by a council; it is lived daily by each member of the community, shaping a culture where trust, respect, and integrity continue to thrive. It takes bravery to even step up to be a leader, and we are grateful to all our students who continue to uphold the values and care of the Chatham Hall community.

Thank you to members of the Class of 2026 for this leadership this year. We are excited to welcome members of the Class of 2027 to the Honor Council for the 2026-2027 school year.
