Home Court, Homecoming

Cornelius Snead, Athletic Director
A Season of Momentum at Chatham Hall
This fall marked more than the start of another athletic season at Chatham Hall. It marked a homecoming, a renewed energy, and a clear step forward in our vision for athletics. As our teams stepped onto their new court and made connections beyond campus, this season reminded us why athletics matter: they build community, character, and confidence.

On September 8, our Varsity Volleyball team returned to its home court for the first time in three seasons, opening play inside the newly named Wagoner-LaDuke Center for Athletics, Health and Wellness (Wag-La). The team rose to the moment with a thrilling five-set victory over The Burlington School, followed by a decisive straight-sets win against Halifax Christian. The stands were full, the energy electric, and Turtle pride unmistakable, an ideal beginning for both a new facility and a new season.

That sense of connection extended beyond campus. Just before Thanksgiving, I had the privilege of representing Chatham Hall at Chatham Elementary School’s Career Day, sharing my journey in athletics and leadership and introducing students to opportunities at Chatham Hall, including our summer athletic and enrichment camps. These moments strengthen community ties and highlight the power of athletics to inspire young people.

We were also proud to welcome college coaches to campus and expose our athletes to the next level, from Sweet Briar College attending home matches to our volleyball team visiting Liberty University. Several athletes are now being recruited, reinforcing our goal to make Chatham Hall a destination for collegiate opportunity.

As I’ve shared before, my vision is simple but ambitious: to elevate our athletic programs to match Chatham Hall’s extraordinary academic legacy. This fall confirmed we are moving in the right direction. With exceptional facilities, dedicated coaches, and student-athletes who rise to every challenge, the future of Chatham Hall athletics is bright.

As we enter the winter season, it is clear that our students are energized and proud to be part of this exceptional athletics program. This season was about coming home to our court, our community, and our shared purpose, and it is only the beginning.
