Rector Connell Honored with VAIS Distinguished Service Award

On Nov. 3, Rector Rachel A. Connell was posthumously honored with the Sally K. Boese Distinguished Service Award during the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) Annual Conference.
“Rachel knew she wanted to make a difference in educating girls. Rachel’s commitment to Chatham Hall was unwavering,” said Chatham Hall Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Hiltwine in a tribute video that was played during the ceremony. “Rachel was truly a remarkable leader.”

The award was accepted on Rector Connell’s behalf by members of her family.

VAIS annually recognizes the achievements of individual educators who embody the qualities and service exemplified by Dr. Boese who served VAIS as its executive director for 24 years. Honorees are selected based on their ability to create outstanding programs, inspire others, and advocate for independent school education.

In addition to the award, VAIS is making a gift in Rector Connell’s name to the School to support student-led initiatives.

During her time at Chatham Hall, Rector Connell steered the School through the COVID-19 pandemic; introduction of several new programs, including Global Entrepreneurship and Living Well at Chatham Hall; expansion of DEI programming and training; a rebranding effort; and the launch of the Boundless Potential campaign.

As noted on its website, VAIS promotes the excellence, growth, and success of Virginia's independent schools by providing relevant and rewarding opportunities for connection, collaboration, and leadership.
