Summer Riding Camp features several individual week-long residential programs offered for riders aged 10-16.
Three individual one week sessions for girls aged 10-16. This program is for current riders that are capable of at least walking and trotting independently, with instruction coming from regular professionals in the Equine industry. This is a program that can also comfortably challenge all levels of riders, including advanced riders, with a variety of lessons and horses available.

Each week, riders can expect to ride in lessons twice a day for an hour at each time. Lessons may be large group flat lessons that focus on navigating a busy show-ring and how to ride safely in large groups; or can be smaller and more focused on learning how to ride a leg yield. Chatham Hall owns thirty-five horses that reside on the property all year long so they are well schooled and educated teachers for the campers. When campers are not riding: several horsemanship activities are offered with topics like confirmation, nutrition, how to manage a large stable, bits and equipment, etc. We also incorporate some silliness in our downtime. We’ve painted horses, designed Olympic cross-country jumps, and played all camp water balloon games!

During their stay at Chatham Hall's Summer Riding Program, campers live in air-conditioned dormitories and are supervised by an adult faculty member and college-aged counselors. Campers that wish to stay for more than one session will have full supervision and additional activities planned on the Saturday in between sessions.
An all girls boarding and day school in Southern Virginia, Chatham Hall prepares girls for college and for productive lives. Our innovative academic program offers Advanced Placement courses, global study and travel, as well as project based learning. Our athletic teams regularly compete at the State level and our exceptional riding program is nationally recognized. We foster the intellect and character of each student and, through our Honor Code, live in a community of trust. Grounded in its Episcopal heritage, the school welcomes students of all faiths and backgrounds.
