Science Investigators features many different activities for campers grades 6-8.

July 21-26, 2019

The Summer Investigators Science camp is built around the development of a student’s 21st-century skills, especially those related to problem-solving, collaboration and curiosity. This is accomplished through the integration of the areas of biology, chemistry, and technology into a program where students assume the role of crime scene investigators in order to solve a mock crime.

The two-week program consists of three 90 minute class periods a day where students develop the techniques they will need to solve the “crime”. With investigations into atomic structure, chemical bonding, genetics, and DNA structure students learn through laboratory activities what it means to be a forensic scientist. Students are also proved with the opportunity to speak with people who are experts in this field, from members of the local police CSI unit to a retired FBI investigator. With the utilization of iPads, students learn to keep a record of all of the evidence that they collect and how to organize it into an e-book presentation to a grand jury at the conclusion of the camp.
