Recent Alumnae Share Insights with Senior Class

Chatham Hall
Last Thursday, three recently graduated alumnae returned to campus for an evening of questions and discussion with the Class of 2019.
Claire Gardner ’15, Ellen Gray Lackey ’18,  and Mereweather Lackey ’15 had dinner with this year’s graduating class and offered insights from their college experiences. This event, known as the College Transition Workshop, has become a chance for graduating seniors to ask any questions they may have about life after Chatham Hall. The College Counseling and Advancement offices host the workshop, which is designed to offer recent graduates one of their first chances to give back to the school by providing a valuable service to current students. The panel of speakers represented colleges throughout the country, including Appalachian State, the University of Mississippi, and Washington College.

Seniors and the visiting alumnae shared dinner in Van Voorhis Lecture Hall before the panel discussion. Director of College Counseling, Dr. Erin McHugh remarked on the event, saying, "It was so great to have our alums come back and talk to the seniors - they were very open and honest! I loved how these young women's experiences were so different, but their advice still so relevant. From finding your way in a large university to the benefits of a smaller, close-knit college, they talked about making the most of their opportunities in college." At the end of the workshop, some students stayed behind to ask further questions and connect with the visiting alumnae. In all, the event provided the participants with vital tools and information that will help seniors make their college decisions in the coming months.
