School Community Enjoys Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration

Chatham Hall
On September 21, the Chatham Hall community came together to enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The holiday is a celebration of family and loved ones in the Chinese and Vietnamese cultural traditions, with a date selected every year by the lunar calendar. Students gathered in Van Voorhis Lecture Hall for an evening of mooncakes, stargazing, and fellowship. The Mid-Autumn Festival was hosted by the Cultural Perspectives and International Students clubs.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally celebrated with small pastries, known as mooncakes, comprised of a red bean paste wrapped in a sweet dough crust. Generally, mooncakes are baked into a round shape to signify completeness and reunion of, in this case, friends and family. The Cultural Perspectives and International Students clubs special-ordered the mooncakes for Chatham Hall’s celebration months in advance to be sure they arrived on time for the festival. The group of assembled students enjoyed their treats, shared jokes and stories, and celebrated the spirit of the Chatham Hall community.
