Alumnae Return to Campus for Reunion 2018

Chatham Hall
Last weekend, alumnae from across the country and around the world traveled to Chatham Hall to celebrate Reunion.
With more than 175 guests in attendance, alums and friends of the school alike enjoyed compelling guest speakers, class receptions, and a silent auction over the course of the weekend. This year’s gathering honored those classes ending in three or eight, with the Class of 1968 celebrating their 50th Reunion.

The weekend started with COE led tours and a presentation by Dr. William P. Black on the school’s history, with a special focus on Georgia O’Keeffe. The afternoon was followed by special receptions for the 25th and 50th Reunion classes, as well as the annual Purple and Gold Reception. Saturday was packed with opportunities for alumnae to reconnect and enjoy campus, starting with a breakfast hosted by beloved staff member John Henry Waller & recently retired CFFO Ron Merricks. Classes gathered in the late morning to walk together to the meadow for the Purple and Gold Parade, with a short program featuring speakers from each of the class decades and concluded with a special lantern ceremony performed by both current seniors as well as the class of 1968. The day continued with the Annual Alumnae Meeting & Luncheon, where Kathy Reynolds '68 and Helene “Lanie” Zimmermann Hill '46 were both honored as this year’s distinguished alumnae (read more about their accomplishments here). Later in the afternoon, attendees enjoyed a talk by author and CUNY professor, Dr. Linda M. Grasso,  whose second book, Equal under the Sky: Georgia O’Keeffe and Twentieth-Century Feminism, was released last year. Dr. Grasso conducted the first historical study of Georgia O’Keeffe’s complex involvement with, and influence on, US feminism from the 1910s to the 1970s for her book, and spoke to the assembled crowd about the inextricable connection between feminism and O’Keeffe in popular culture and scholarship.

The day concluded in Van Voorhis Lecture Hall with a Reunion-wide viewing of the Kentucky Derby and silent auction to benefit the Legacy Scholarship Fund. The reception was the perfect end to a weekend filled with reconnection, celebration, and commemoration. Plans are already underway for Reunion 2019, which will be held on May 3 to 5.
