Chatham Hall Hosts SWVHJA Horse Show

This past Saturday Chatham Hall hosted the first of two open horse shows on campus; the next one will take place April 7th.
The show was a South West Virginia Hunter Jumper Association (SWVHJA) event, meaning there were classes that earned the competitors points toward year-end awards and local medal finals. This show was exciting for the community and allowed many of our students the chance to compete against outside competitors from the area. Despite the rainy weather students and faculty enjoyed the chance to share our beautiful facility and showcase the skills the girls have been working on all season. There were numerous highlights from the day with great ribbons for all in several divisions. Caroline Hall '21 and Amalie Harrison '21 competed two school-owned horses in the pleasure divisions, Julia Brown ‘21 was up next with Omega and ended up champion of the Beginner Equitation division, this was all three girls first horse show with Chatham Hall! We had five students participate in the two-foot hunters and the inaugural Chatham Hall Mini Medal, Susie Wu ‘18 took the first place in that class aboard our very own Kachina Doll. Ellie Johnson '20, aboard Chatham Hall's Celtic Fiddler, was overall Champion of the Hopeful Hunter 2'3" division! We had three girls participate in the 2'6", Maddi Grossman '19 rode her horse Secret Admirer to a second in one over fences class, Lily Porter '19 was Reserve Champion in the hunters and was first in the Randolph Medal Class! Additionally, Hailey Johnson '19 put in some great rides with Ophelia, a young horse owned by the school. Shannon Huth '18 competed her own Stella Luna in the Children's Hunters 3' for the first time which was very exciting! In addition to the results already mentioned Chatham Hall was so excited to have many new students get to compete at our home SWVHJA show. Sarah Matejko ‘21 was Reserve Champion in the Pleasure Hunter Division with a first and second on Chatham Hall's Americana. Additionally, in the Pleasure Hunter, Emma Jones '19 competed on Chatham Hall's Sugar, and Lauren Lamothe '18 on competed Truckee Whisp. In the Hopeful Hunter 2'3" Athena Critides '20 showed Chatham Hall's Starbucks and had some strong rides. It was a great day that let our riders shine with our horses!
