Community Honors MLK Jr. Day with Memorial Service

Chatham Hall
On Monday, the Chatham Hall community celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a memorial chapel service organized by the Cultural Perspectives Club.
Using King’s words from the 1963 “I have a Dream” speech as the core meditation of the service, students offered their perspectives as to what those famous words mean today. In organizing the service, club president, Amari Royal ’19, said, "I hope that Chatham Hall can acknowledge America's past in comparison to America's present. Thanks to Martin Luther King Jr., America has moved closer to his dream of complete equality, but we also have much more work to do in order to fulfill his dream.”

The memorial service also featured a powerful spoken word rendition of “Glory” from the movie Selma, and St. Mary’s Choir performed a moving rendition of “Down to the River to Pray.” Joining the Chatham Hall community were 29 prospective students and their families visiting campus for the January Open House. After the service, the visitors had a chance to tour the school, attend classes, and speak with students about life at Chatham Hall.
