Faculty Spotlight: Dean of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Dr. Tidwell

Chatham Hall
Dr. Jacqueline Tidwell joined the Chatham Hall Faculty this year as the Dean of Innovation & Entrepreneurship. We took the time this week to ask her a bit more about herself.
What were you doing before coming to Chatham Hall?
Before coming to Chatham Hall, I was a professor at Arizona State University. While I was there I worked to help students learn about methods for leading in diverse teams and how to use technology to enhance our understanding of what it means to be human through literature and history.

What are you most looking forward to this year?
The one thing I am most looking forward to this year is learning about all of the many ways our amazing Chatham Hall students have channelled their creativity and empathy into making a positive change in the communities they call home--while also seeing how learning more about design thinking can even further empower them to better the world!

What’s something we may not know about you?
Many people may not know that I have a deep interest in learning as much as I can about vampire myths across cultures and throughout history. I will read pretty much every piece of fiction or non-fiction I can get my hands on that depicts the modern vampire. I mean, they are after all quite the fictional innovators.

What is your favorite dining hall meal so far?
Being a user-centered designer, I am hopeless for the build-your-own salad bar. I love being able to make my own yummy creation that is specially designed for me.

What has been a standout moment for you so far this year?
If I had to pick one standout moment from this year it would have to be seeing my B Period English II class come together as a team to explore their shared passion for understanding why innovation is necessary for Chatham Hall's survival. After reading The Hunger Games, they felt inspired to better understand the role innovation plays in their school and to share those insights with rest of the Chatham Hall community by proposing, writing, and directing their own documentary on the subject. Keep your eyes open for trailers, teasers, and a ticket announcement for the viewing of their documentary in May 2018!
