Quilting Club Brings Home Awards at County Fair

Chatham Hall
The Quilt Pro Quo club recently had five quilts represented in the Halifax County Fair, three of which won awards in their categories.
The Halifax County Fair awards 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes in a number of quilting categories, including Machine and Handsewn, as well as a Best in Show ribbon.  Quilts are judged on overall appearance, quality, and craftsmanship, and are on display in the Main Exhibit Hall during the week of the fair.  The group's Bento Block quilt, which was constructed over the past year by both students and faculty, won third place in the Machine category.  This quilt will be presented to the Health Care Center during Monday's Assembly.  Members of Quilt Pro Quo also won individual works, with pieces placing first and second place in the Machine category.

The Quilt Pro Quo club is for interested quilters of all levels and offers beginners the chance to learn the skills of sewing and quilt craftsmanship.  As a group, their goal is to not only learn sewing skills but to spread warmth and cheer with their quilts.  They have a monthly quilt raffle to raise funds for charitable projects, which have included quilts for the Appreciation Quilters (who donate quilts to military hospitals), the Haven House in Greensboro, NC, the Health Care Center, and Kennel Quilts, a non-profit organization which provides quilts for animals in shelters.

Members complete projects during open studio hours in the Quilting Studio, and you can follow the group on Instagram at @quiltproquo.
