Global Conversations Come to the Classroom

Chatham Hall
This week, Chatham Hall hosted the first web-classroom session of the year, with representatives from schools across the country in participation via webcast.
These sessions, hosted periodically throughout the year, will offer students the opportunity to discuss a range of topics with peers from diverse backgrounds and locations. Faculty members organizing these sessions focus on empowering Chatham Hall girls to better the world through informed and empathetic conversation.

Using brand new video conferencing equipment, Chatham Hall students spoke with students from participating schools on a variety of topics surrounding current events. They discussed issues ranging from the Charlottesville marches to gender equity, all under the the overarching recognition of the anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington. In the conversation, students identified and discussed the need for civil discourse, honing in on the central question of, “Why do we fear those who are different from us?”

The next event, focusing on issues of gender, will be on October 4th. Representatives from schools interested in joining the discussion should contact Dean of Global Initiatives, Sean Terwilliger, at sterwilliger@chathamhall.org for more information.
