Robotics Team Wins Design Award

Team mentor, Dan Waters reports, “The day started off great with a quick inspection, team scouting, and a great judging session. When matches started we had a perfect first match, and were the only team all day to get the 21 inch cap ball on the goal…. A part in the ball lift malfunctioned and the lift would not go down all the way. Our only option was to remove the lift so we could continue to compete.” When faced with the prospect of having to wait to fix the lift back at school, team members Joaquina Guevara ‘17, Margaret-Sophia Pedersen ‘18, and several others made the bold choice to attempt to repair the lift at the competition. The repair process took close to three hours, during which time the Chatham Hall robot, Sköldpadda, was still in competition. Despite the valiant efforts of the robot operators and repair team, the Tutu Turtles lost in three matches to the competition’s #2 seed.

Despite the disappointing loss, the team still walked away with recognition for their work. Judges awarded the PTC Design Award, which recognizes a team’s design process and elegance in design. The Tutu Turtles will see their next competition at the State Meet in Lynchburg, Virginia on February 25th.
