Big Win Sets Team Up for Post-Season Competition

The IEA team looks forward to finals!
Last Saturday, ten members of the IEA team traveled to MacNairs Country Acres, in Raleigh, NC, for the last regular season show of the 2016-17 competition year. In the Open Division, Hannah DeLeon '20 finished both 3rd over fences and 3rd on the flat. Elizabeth Trexler '17 finished 6th over fences and 1st on the flat. In the Intermediate Division, Chandler Runnells '19 and Juliette Alliata '17 had outstanding rounds over fences finishing 1st and 4th respectively. Runnells also came in 2nd in the flat section. In Novice Fences, Caroline Hawthorne '19 finishing 3rd, while Emma Jones '19 had a strong round but no ribbon. Hailey Johnson '19 and Hawthorne continued Chatham Hall’s winning streak by winning 3rd and  4th place respectively in the Novice Flat class.

In the final class of the day, Beginner Walk Trot Canter, Chatham Hall was represented by Lauren Lamothe '18 and Saffron Sharifi '19. Sharifi finished 1st in a class of 11 competitors, while Lamothe had a strong showing but no ribbon. The riders were supported throughout the day by Lily Porter ‘19, who stepped up as the Team Captain, keeping coaches and riders informed of results and horse information throughout the show. Chatham Hall finished the horse show with 29 points, taking the Championship ribbon. 

Looking towards post-season competition, On February 18th and 19th Chatham Hall will host the Interscholastic Equestrian Association Region 5 and 6 Finals for all qualified teams and riders. Area teams, ranging from Raleigh, NC to Charlottesville, va, that have earned at least 20 points in the 2016-17 year will be invited to the show, as well as any riders from those teams who have at least 18 points.  Qualified teams choose one rider in each class to earn team points throughout the weekend. The thirty teams who will be competing each are aiming for the top three team spots, securing that team a place in the Zone 3 Finals. The top three individual riders from each class will also progress to the Finals.

Beginner WTC - Susie Wu '18, Isabella Hubbard '19, and Marjory Lewis '19
