TuTu Turtles Bring Home Rookie All Star Award

In their second meet as part of the FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC), Chatham Hall’s TuTu Turtles (team 9003) brought home their second award.
Honored with the Rookie All Star Award, the team was recognized for “exemplifying a young but strong partnership effort, as well as implementing the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology.”

“At this event, the students were able to collaborate with former TuTu Turtles captain and Chatham Hall alumna Claire Mayo ’15 and her team Blackwater Robotics 1610 to scout during the matches to see how the FRC teams performed on the field,” noted team mentor Mrs. Molly Thomas. “Working together and helping each other learn is a core value of FIRST.”

Fourteen students participated in the district event, held at Deep Run High School in Glen Allen, Va., where 38 other teams were also present from across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

“I think it was really exciting to be able to be surrounded by older students who are in positions that other younger team members are interested in, especially at this competition,” said Maryn Call ‘26.

“As the human player for our 2023 season, I was able to get up close to the rest of our drive team and see what really goes into navigating our robot on the game field. I'm incredibly proud of our team and all we have accomplished in our first year of FRC robotics and look forward to the next three years to come!”
