Two Artists Recognized with Scholastic Awards

Olive Ye '24 and Lucia Yang ‘25 have each received recognition in the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, presented by the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley.
Ye’s embroidery project "Courage" was awarded a Silver Key in Expanded Projects while Yang’s photographs "Rainbow," "Alice’s Neighborhood," and "Real Flowers" earned her a Silver Key and two Honorable Mentions, respectively.

The Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley is planning to host an exhibit of students’ works in its gallery, as well as an online gallery to celebrate the award winners, from Feb. 16 - March 26. An awards ceremony is planned for March 26 at the historic Pulaski Theatre in Pulaski, Va.

Begun in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are now celebrating their centennial. Some of America’s most celebrated artists and writers are awards alumni, including Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates, and Andy Warhol.
