Yun to Perform Jan. 22 at Emmanuel Church

Dr. Francis Yun, Chatham Hall’s director of music, will be performing at Emmanuel Church in Chatham, Va. on Jan. 22.
He will perform four keyboard suites, including Le Roux’s Suite No. 1 in D Minor, Couperin’s Ordre No. 6 in B-Flat Major, Handel’s Suite No. 2 in F Major HWV 427, and Bach’s Capriccio on the Departure of a Beloved Brother BWV 992. The concert will begin at 3:30 p.m.

“I began playing the harpsichord while still a serious student of piano,” explained Yun. “I soon became enamored with the expressive capabilities of the harpsichord and became passionate about the music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.”

Yun has performed throughout the United States in both solo and chamber recitals and has served as a continuo player for many orchestras, including The New York Strings Orchestra, Apollo’s Fire, and Juilliard415. He has been a concerto soloist with the Garth Newel Emerging Artist Orchestra, the Birmingham Bloomfield Orchestra, and Juilliard415 and has performed in many prestigious concert halls including Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall.

A strong advocate for new music written for the harpsichord, Yun has commissioned several new works for the instrument and has also appeared as soloist with the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra where he premiered a new harpsichord concerto. He hopes to bring more of this creativity to the Chatham area with even more local concerts throughout the year.

Yun also hosts a podcast, So Many Wrong Notes, in which he and co-host Jeannette Fang discuss issues that face many emerging music professionals. More can be found at www.somanywrongnotes.com.
