Spring Athletics Spark Successful Season

The spring season saw many successes across each of our five sports.
Lacrosse benefited from both old and new players, with newer student-athletes honing their skills quickly. In addition, Raifah Alam ’22 was selected to the Blue Ridge Conference (BRC) Honorable Mention Team.

Soccer had a tremendous season with a new, fast-paced offense with high pressure that led to many other great results for the Turtles. Carrie Midkiff ’22 and Alexa Keating ‘22 both earned 1st Team All-BRC honors while Avery Deigl ’23 earned 2nd Team All-BRC honors. Midkiff was also selected to 2nd-Team All-State. Additionally, all three were ranked in individual categories: Midkiff was third in the state for total points and third for total goals scored; Keating was eighth in the state for total points scored; and Deigl led the state (both public and private schools) in saves made during the regular season. Lily Chappell '22 will continue her soccer career next year at Oxford College of Emory University.

Golf was one of three sports introduced to students for interscholastic competition this year. On the course, the Turtles took off and won all four of their matches of the season. For the season, the Golf team averaged 60 for their eight-member team. The Turtles had four student-athletes qualifying for the state tournament including Abi DeBass ’24, Ellery Blurton ‘24, Sophie Leak ‘23, and Allison Faulds ‘22. All four players finished within the top 20 in their respective divisions, including Leak earning State Runner-Up in the Intermediate Division.

Track & Field made its debut at Chatham Hall as another new competitive spring sport. The Turtles did an amazing job in this first season including winning the meet at Gretna High School and having 17 state qualifiers. Four students also placed third in their events at the BRC Conference Championships.

IEA competed throughout the year, including at Zone Finals this spring. The team finished ninth overall, while placing in an impressive six out of seven total team classes. Zoey Horn '22 earned the Zone 3 Scholarship Award to be used at her college of choice, the University of Lynchburg, where she will be riding next year.

Way to go, Turtles!
