SWVHJA Horse Show Comes to Chatham Hall

On April 10, Chatham Hall's Riding program hosted the South West Virginia Hunter Jumper Association (SWVHJA) Horse Show at Mars Arena.
In addition to several of Chatham Hall's own students competing, many riders from the surrounding area participated as well. While adhering to many safety guidelines, all of the competitors enjoyed a great day of competition and learning.

To start off the day, Maddie McCoy '24 showed for the first time aboard Chatham Hall's King. She earned some great ribbons, including a second in the Pre-Beginner Equitation on the flat. Eve Dunnagan '23 on Princeton had some great rides in the Hopeful Hunters and ended up overall Reserve Champion.

All of Chatham Hall's riders competed in the 12-14 Equitation and had a clean sweep of the class. Annabele Whitehead '22 took home the win, Caroline David '23 second, Vance Luster '23 third, McCoy fourth, Zoey Horn '22 fifth, and Dunnagan sixth.

In the Special Children's Hunters, David and Chatham Hall's Be Dazzled were overall Champions with a win in the first over fences class. Luster also competed in the Special's and had some ribbons over fences. Whitehead finished the day in the Children's Hunters with her own horse Imperio and was named the overall Reserve Champion after a win in the first over fences class.

All the riders enjoyed the chance to compete and practice the skills they have been honing. Next, the Riding program will be hosting an Emerging Athletes Program Mini Clinic with USHJA President Mary Babick on May 8 & 9.

Great job, riders!
