Chatham Hall TEAMS to Engineer Pandemic Solutions

For more than 30 years, Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS) has hosted an annual theme-based competition.
Administered by the Technology Student Association (TSA), the competition asks teams of two to four students to apply STEM knowledge in creative ways to solve real-world engineering challenges. In 2021, the theme is “Engineering Solutions in a Pandemic.” Representing Chatham Hall will be:

Emma Denny ‘21
Bug Garner ‘24
Caroline Greganti ‘24
Ellie Larsen ‘22
Catherine Malone ‘22
Kennedy Martin ‘22
Catherine Nichols ‘24
Whitley Younger ‘24

One-day TEAMS state competitions will take place virtually in February and March. Each three-part competition will include a design/build component, a multiple-choice component, and an essay submitted the day prior to the competition.

“I wanted to participate in teams to have an opportunity to work with my fellow classmates to solve problems,” said Whitley Younger ‘24. “Amidst the global pandemic, TEAMS gives us a chance to see how the use of artificial intelligence and robots could help with contact tracing, contactless delivery, and the supply and demand chain.”

For Emma Denny ’21, participating in TEAMS is a natural outgrowth of her passion for science and design.

“I love exploring up-and-coming scientific topics and working with my peers in hopes of creating solutions that have the potential to better the lives of everyone,” she said.

Chatham Hall’s teams will compete on Sunday, Feb. 28.
