Riding Program Hosts Back-to-Back IEA Shows

The IEA team hosted two back-to-back horse shows on Saturday, Nov. 14. The first horse show of the season, the day was full of competitive and team spirit, as well as excellent riding.
Annabele Whitehead ‘22 started off the day taking first and second in each of the open flat and fences. Zoë Holliday '21 had consistent rides in open fences with two third place ranks. Kensington Nelson ‘22 grabbed a first in intermediate flat and a first and second over fences, while Zoey Horn ‘22 took two first-place ribbons on the flat and a first and second over fences, also in the intermediate division.

The afternoon started off with novice fences where all five of the participating Chatham Hall riders had some nice trips in competitive classes. Results left Caroline Hall ‘21 with a second and fourth, Carolyn Whatley ‘23 with a fourth in the first class, and Vance Luster ‘23 with the win in the second class. In Novice Flat, Julia Brown '21 earned the win in the first section and a second in the second round.

The walk trot canter division was the toughest competition of the day with 11 riders, and Hannah Summerlin '21 rose to a second-place finish in the second class with a very strong ride. Additionally, Sam Richey ‘22 grabbed a fourth and Anna Song ’21 and Sophie Croker Poole ‘23 each took sixth-place finishes.

Overall, the Riding team ended the competition Champion of Horse Show A and Reserve Champion for Horse Show B.

The team was also able to celebrate its six seniors during this first and final show of the season. The coaching staff commends and thanks them for bringing energy, hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout their time on the IEA team and in the Riding Program.

The team also organized a sendoff for Coach James Morris who is leaving Chatham Hall at the end of the semester. The team and School have been fortunate to have Morris at the head of the Riding Program for the past 10 years. He will be very missed.

The IEA team will be competing again the weekend of Nov. 21 & 22 in Randleman, NC and wrapping up the regular season in early December.
