Riding Program Hosts Equine Science Series

On Sept. 20, the Riding Program hosted its first in a series about Equine Science. The series will include multiple sessions throughout the semester to supplement student knowledge of horses, especially for those considering studying veterinary science in the future.
The first session covered horse teeth, how they function, and how they have evolved based on lifestyle led. The instructor was able to bring in two horse skulls which allowed students a hands-on experience in understanding both horse teeth and skulls. They looked at the difference in between the skulls, what that can tell you about the age and gender of the horse, how the top and bottom teeth fit together and what that means for diet, and the importance of good dental hygiene.

The Riding Program looks forward to hosting another Equine Science session in the future!
