Community Joins to Remember and Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Chatham Hall
On Sunday, the Chatham Hall community celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday with a special chapel service.
Titled “A Life in the Life”, the service examined the legacy and impact of King’s message by decade, starting in the 1920s and stretching through today. Faculty members and students read quotes from King and Rosa Parks, showed archival footage from one of Dr. King’s visits to Danville, Va,  and performed poetry throughout the service.

The Reverend Susan Bunton Haynes, Bishop-Elect for the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia, was also in attendance, offering a reflection on the impact of Viola Liuzzo on the Civil Rights Movement. Joining the Chatham Hall community were prospective students and their families who were on campus for the January Open House. During the Monday Open House, visitors had a chance to tour the campus, visit classes, and speak with students about life at Chatham Hall.
