Young Alumnae Offer College Advice to the Class of 2020

Chatham Hall
On Thursday, five recently graduated alumnae returned to campus for an evening of questions and discussion with the Class of 2020.
Alexandra Casker '19, Asha Moore '18, Kyra Brooks '19, India Moore '19, and Delali Som-Pimpong '19 had dinner with this year’s graduating class and then offered advice and insight from their college experiences. This event, known as the College Transition Workshop, has become a chance for graduating seniors to ask any questions they may have about life after Chatham Hall. The College Counseling and Advancement offices host the workshop, which is designed to offer recent graduates one of their first chances to give back to Chatham Hall by providing a valuable service to current students. The panel of speakers represented colleges throughout Virginia, North Carolina, and the east coast, including the University of Virginia, Boston College, and George Washington University.

Seniors and the visiting alumnae shared dinner in Van Voorhis Lecture Hall before the panel discussion. Director of College Counseling, Dr. Erin McHugh remarked on the event, saying, "It was so nice to welcome five of our recent graduates back to campus to talk to the seniors - their advice was so honest and relevant. They spoke a lot about their adjustments to college, but also encouraged the girls to really appreciate the time they have left here, and the close-knit community of Chatham Hall. They encouraged the seniors to find a club or activity to be involved with in college, because it can take a bit more effort to find a community that is as supportive as the one they have here." At the end of the hour and a half workshop, some students stayed behind to ask further questions and connect with the young alums. In all, the event provided all of the participants with some vital tools and helpful information that will help seniors make their college decisions in the coming months.
