Mari Armstrong-Hough '99 Visits Campus as Freshman Leader in Residence

Girls identify what topics are collectively important to them, form a committee to refine the process and work personally with the Leader to craft a schedule including meals, tours, workshops, and presentations. The Class of 2022 identified that the qualities most important to them as a group were learning from strong female role models, gaining a better understanding of health and wellness, and receiving advice from an accomplished woman on how to make the most of their high school experience. As such, they chose alumna Mari Armstrong-Hough MPH, Ph.D. ’99.

Dr. Armstrong-Hough is a medical sociologist and epidemiologist at Yale University. She is a published author (and dedicated her book to a Chatham Hall alumna) and an international traveler and researcher, studying health disparities in the U.S., Uganda, Ethiopia, Nepal, Japan, and beyond. She is also a current member of the Chatham Hall Alumnae Council.

During her residence on campus, Dr. Armstrong-Hough shared meals with students, taught workshops on social epidemiology, held a session on international travel and networking, and gave a keynote address. In her keynote, Dr. Armstrong-Hough described her journey and offered wisdom she has gained through the years on public health and leadership:

Dr. Armstrong-Hough emphasized her connections with Chatham Hall classmates and how they have shaped her life after graduation. Chatham Hall helped her dream big and to mold her into what she has become: an investigator who thrives at the intersections of multiple disciplines and communities.
