Isabella Hubbard '19 Named Reserve Champion at IEA National Competition

Chatham Hall
On Thursday, April 25 Isabella Hubbard '19 traveled to the IEA National Finals in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Hubbard qualified for the National Championship at Zone 3 Finals at the end of March by receiving a first-place finish over fences and a second place on the flat. The competition began Friday morning, with Isabella showing in the Intermediate over fences class.  After an excellent round, Isabella received eighth place of the 18 riders. "For a rider that didn't really jump before her time at Chatham Hall, this is a huge accomplishment," stated coach James F. Morris.

After a break in the middle of the day, Isabella returned to ride in one of two sections of the Intermediate division on the flat. After both sections had their rides, the judges pick their top 8 to return to ride for a ribbon. Isabella drew a hard horse in the first class and was therefore granted a chance to ride a second horse in the next heat, in order to get a fair shot of qualifying for the final. After her second ride, Isabella was called back to compete in the Final at the end of the day. Having a stellar mount named Hugh in the final round, Isabella could show off her talent and hard work. The judges were impressed by her position and style, earning her a second place and ending her day as the Reserve National Champion in Intermediate Flat.

After three consecutive years of traveling to the championship, this year was a great culmination of her consistent hard work and dedication. Reflecting on her performance at Nationals, Morris said, "Isabella is the prime example of what hard work, resilience and a competitive spirit can become. I feel very fortunate to have helped with that development over the past four years."
