Submitting an Application for Financial Aid

Financing an independent school education is an investment in your daughter’s bright future. Chatham Hall’s financial aid program is designed and supported by the generosity of alumnae, faculty, and friends of the School whose goal aligns with that of the Financial Aid Committee: to provide a Chatham Hall education to deserving students who may not otherwise afford to attend Chatham Hall due to financial constraints. We are committed to helping your family in any way possible as you navigate the financial aid application.

Financial aid decisions are made on an annual basis. Adherence to deadlines is critical for consideration to receive or renew financial aid. Financial Aid decisions are made independently of admission decisions. Chatham Hall uses School and Student Services (SSS), a service of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), to process financial aid applications.

Be assured that all information submitted is kept in the strictest confidence. Financial Aid grants cannot be awarded until all required information is received. In cases of divorce, separation or remarriage in which there are joint custody agreements, all parents are required to complete the PFS and submit all required documents.

Parents concerned that extenuating circumstances may affect the requirement for information may send appeals to the attention of the Financial Aid Committee at Chatham Hall, financialaid@chathamhall.org.

Nilsen Merit Scholarship

One of the largest single gifts ever made to any girls’ independent school is the $31 million given to Chatham Hall from the estate of alumna Elizabeth Beckwith Nilsen, Class of 1931. This gift represents an amazing level of support inspired by Mrs. Nilsen’s lifelong appreciation for – and fond memories of – her student days at Chatham Hall. Mrs. Nilsen once remarked, “Chatham Hall was the best thing that ever happened to me.” Her remarkable gift is, without question, one of the best things ever to happen to Chatham Hall – and perhaps, in turn, to you.

If you are a girl who has what it takes to be a Nilsen Scholar, you are a girl with great expectations. You excel in academics. You have special talents. You are an achiever. It is important to find a school that is as dynamic as you are. Not simply a strong school, but an exceptional school such as Chatham Hall.

Qualified students must have
:
An exceptional academic record
90% and higher scores on the SSAT
A commitment to integrity and honor
Talents that contribute to school life (e.g., leadership, the arts, athletics)
Excellent recommendations

To apply, please submit the Chatham Hall Application, and reach out to the Admissions Office to indicate your interest. To be considered for a Nilsen Merit Scholarship, students must be new domestic applicants.
